The UNSW Student Representative Council (SRC) voted last night to approve a bid to purchase the Sydney Monorail if it placed on auction after its deconstruction.
The plan would cost the University of New South Wales Student Association $1.2 million dollars.
In a press release announcing the plans, the Council cited the long walk between Anzac Parade and Upper Campus as a significant reason in the decision to acquire the monorail.
The monorail is currently servicing an area of inner Sydney, connecting Darling Harbour with the CBD.
“A monorail is the best solution to UNSW’s transport needs,” said second year Art student Michael Robertson.
Whilst Transport NSW was unable to comment last night, sources suggest they will be examining the proposal closely.
